Food Review: Tea Valley

My exams are finally over!
Thrilled that it's another achievement in my lifetime.
I can finally start to focus on things I want to do, other little things I hope to achieve.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, I'm reviewing Tea Valley, located at Downtown East.
I went there during Mother's Day last year with my family.
Yeah I know thats damn long ago :B

Tea Valley is a eating place which features Taiwanese food.
The items are mostly quite affordable, and some dishes stood out more than others.

First up, the snacks.

Seaweed Fries - $3.50
Tastes exactly like macs seaweed shaker fries.
Not bad, but not impressive.

Chicken Floss Toast - $2.80
The thick toast was crispy and buttery enough,
but the floss dropping around was annoying.
I'd try the garlic toast next time!

Fried Golden Needle Mushroom - $3
Basically tempura style mushrooms.
Da bomb ! Everyone couldnt stop attacking this dish.
Crispy and didn't taste too floury.

Crispy Salted Chicken - $4.80
Noms. This was another hit, and we had to order more.
Their batter is not too thick, and the salt-pepper seasoning was just right.
I thought the chili sauce wasnt a perfect match though.
Eating it on it's own is sufficient.

Guo Tie - 6 pcs for $4.80
Also known as pot stickers, or dumplings.
Stuffed with a pork and chives mix, and accompanied with vinegar and ginger dip.

Our main dishes were mainly these three.

Oyster Noodle - $5.50
The classical Taiwanese dish!
A huge dash of vinegar to the flavorful thick broth. Niceee.

Vegetable Mini Steamboat - $9.80
All of them who ordered opted for chicken soup base. There was herbal base available though.
Portion was meant for 1, and contained corn, brocoli, tofu, carrots, and tau kee.
You'll have to order rice separately too.

I'd much rather try the other dishes.

Hot & Sour Noodles - $5.50
The noodles were springy, and there were chunks of mushrooms and tofu inside. :D
If you havent tried this before, the soup is more like a soupy-gravy consistency.
The 'hot' comes from the black pepper, and sour from black vinegar.
For me, I added another dose of black vinegar, cause I like it like that.

Minced Pork Noodle - $5.50
Another signature Taiwanese dish, but I think it fell flat here.
The handmade noodles are nice and springy, however the minced pork was dry;
there wasn't enough sauce to mix with the noodles, which was important to me.

I really liked most of the dishes there, and I would want to go back and try the braised pork rice.
I'd go back for the crispy salted chicken and fried golden mushrooms too. :D
