Food Review: DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe

Other than Batman, I am never a huge fan of DC Comics.
But the boyfriend is. HAHAH.

Imagine his excitement when he found out our dinner venue :D

DC Comics Super Heroes Café

2 Bayfront Avenue, L1-03/4/5 Bay Level
The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands

Opening hours:
Sun - Thurs: 10.30 am to 11 pm
Fri - Sat: 10.30 am to 11.30 pm

*Checked with the staff - they're not halal, but no pork no lard is used

The dining area is split into two - cafe on the right, and restaurant on the left.
Cafe serves well, cafe food - slices of cake, cupcakes, sandwiches, drinks etc.

Decor is really awesome, I spotted this private room at the cafe area.
Gotham City Police Dept. - complete with Joker, Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Riddler sketches.

Oh hai Selena Kyle/Anne Hathway. And her sexy bike.

Memorabilia!

Restaurant area.

Menu!
Names of the dishes are creative, in that cheesy and cute way.

This is on the back

Crazy person kept staring at the wrong side of the menu.. Faster order la!

Table placard.
I've never heard of this guy, sorry hahahaha.

The Penguin's Squid Squad - $14.90
Otherwise known as calamari. Served with yuzu tartar dip.

We got this to share, and eh its quite nice!
Lightly battered and served piping hot, the calamari wasn't greasy at all.
The yuzu tartar complemented it very nicely too.

Pok's Batman's Dark Knight - $25.90
Wagyu beef patty, grilled portobello, mesclun salad, tomatoes, melted cheddar cheese and tapenade spread,
kiaped between a charcoal bun stamped with Batman's logo in cheddar cheese.

Pok loves it but I think he might be biased cause its Batman..

I went to google what's tapenade spread, and it is.. seasoned olives!

You know, for the rest of the dishes I wasn't at all impressed with the presentation.
Actually, only Pok's was like, wow DC-inspired leh!

Because the rest of our food looked like they are the calefare in the comic books.. Extras only.

Bimb's: Hawkman's Chicken Schnitzel Fingers - $18.90
Breaded chicken fingers with fries, mesclun salad and drizzled with cheese.

I can't even see the chicken HAHAHAH.
Fortunately the taste was alright, but it was slightly oily at the end, especially the fries.

Mine: Aquaman's Friends with Fish.. and Chips - $22.90
Traditional battered snapper and fries.

At least they got the arrangement sequence right this time. ;p

Their chef must be super at preparing seafood, (yes I needed to make that punny joke)
cause my fish and chips was also battered to perfection and complemented with the yuzu tartar.
Addictive leh.

Boss: Suicide Squawk - $22.90
Roasted half spring chicken, marinated with honey, thyme and lemon.
Served with grilled pineapple, roasted sesame seeds, spring onion and fries.

HAHAH the name really ah, quite apt.

For a themed cafe/restaurant, presentation is usually of utmost importance, followed by ambiance and food expectations.

I guess for DC cafe, at least they made sure of the ambiance and food quality standards,
rather than only serving pretty but sub-standard tasting food.

I've been to enough themed cafes to know that I shouldn't expect great dishes,
but I'm happy to report that DC cafe scores a 7/10 for food quality.

That being said, they really should put in slightly more effort into the presentation of their dishes.
Plopping everything onto decal plates doesn't make it exciting enough for a customer who is already hyped up by the ambiance.
The least they could do is stick some food flags la, like those Fish & Co. uses.
Not very difficult ah, and the cheesy names are already there.

My dinner companions!

#MarvelFTW !! Boss says he's Ironman HAHAH.
