Food Review: DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe

Other than Batman, I am never a huge fan of DC Comics.
But the boyfriend is. HAHAH.

Imagine his excitement when he found out our dinner venue :D

DC Comics Super Heroes Café

2 Bayfront Avenue, L1-03/4/5 Bay Level
The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands

Opening hours:
Sun - Thurs: 10.30 am to 11 pm
Fri - Sat: 10.30 am to 11.30 pm

*Checked with the staff - they're not halal, but no pork no lard is used

The dining area is split into two - cafe on the right, and restaurant on the left.
Cafe serves well, cafe food - slices of cake, cupcakes, sandwiches, drinks etc.

Decor is really awesome, I spotted this private room at the cafe area.
Gotham City Police Dept. - complete with Joker, Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Riddler sketches.

Oh hai Selena Kyle/Anne Hathway. And her sexy bike.

Memorabilia!

Restaurant area.

Menu!
Names of the dishes are creative, in that cheesy and cute way.

This is on the back

Crazy person kept staring at the wrong side of the menu.. Faster order la!

Table placard.
I've never heard of this guy, sorry hahahaha.

The Penguin's Squid Squad - $14.90
Otherwise known as calamari. Served with yuzu tartar dip.

We got this to share, and eh its quite nice!
Lightly battered and served piping hot, the calamari wasn't greasy at all.
The yuzu tartar complemented it very nicely too.

Pok's Batman's Dark Knight - $25.90
Wagyu beef patty, grilled portobello, mesclun salad, tomatoes, melted cheddar cheese and tapenade spread,
kiaped between a charcoal bun stamped with Batman's logo in cheddar cheese.

Pok loves it but I think he might be biased cause its Batman..

I went to google what's tapenade spread, and it is.. seasoned olives!

You know, for the rest of the dishes I wasn't at all impressed with the presentation.
Actually, only Pok's was like, wow DC-inspired leh!

Because the rest of our food looked like they are the calefare in the comic books.. Extras only.

Bimb's: Hawkman's Chicken Schnitzel Fingers - $18.90
Breaded chicken fingers with fries, mesclun salad and drizzled with cheese.

I can't even see the chicken HAHAHAH.
Fortunately the taste was alright, but it was slightly oily at the end, especially the fries.

Mine: Aquaman's Friends with Fish.. and Chips - $22.90
Traditional battered snapper and fries.

At least they got the arrangement sequence right this time. ;p

Their chef must be super at preparing seafood, (yes I needed to make that punny joke)
cause my fish and chips was also battered to perfection and complemented with the yuzu tartar.
Addictive leh.

Boss: Suicide Squawk - $22.90
Roasted half spring chicken, marinated with honey, thyme and lemon.
Served with grilled pineapple, roasted sesame seeds, spring onion and fries.

HAHAH the name really ah, quite apt.

For a themed cafe/restaurant, presentation is usually of utmost importance, followed by ambiance and food expectations.

I guess for DC cafe, at least they made sure of the ambiance and food quality standards,
rather than only serving pretty but sub-standard tasting food.

I've been to enough themed cafes to know that I shouldn't expect great dishes,
but I'm happy to report that DC cafe scores a 7/10 for food quality.

That being said, they really should put in slightly more effort into the presentation of their dishes.
Plopping everything onto decal plates doesn't make it exciting enough for a customer who is already hyped up by the ambiance.
The least they could do is stick some food flags la, like those Fish & Co. uses.
Not very difficult ah, and the cheesy names are already there.

My dinner companions!

#MarvelFTW !! Boss says he's Ironman HAHAH.

Food Review: fArt tArtz

fArt tArtz is one of my favourite cafes in the east, and its super near my house so even better. :D

Levon first discovered this cafe through the Sugar app - they were promoting their mud tarts.
Ironically we all love their savoury mains more

 fArt tArtz
Singapore Expo,
Foyer 1, Max-atria, #02-04,
Singapore 486150

Opening hours:
Mon - Thurs: 9 am to 6 pm
Fri - Sun: 9 am to 8 pm

Those pretty flower pots are the famous mud tarts.
They offer a range of other desserts too - dessert jars, eclairs, muffins, and tarts.

Get the menu from the counter.

I love how the seating area looks - clean, comfortable, and loads of sunlight filtering through.
It used to be Coffee Bean's space, and this was my sec school revision corner/PBL meeting place.

First visit was with Bimb and Levon, before my first ever afternoon shift! :D

Grilled Hot Wings - $8.50
Yummy like Pizza Hut's standard, slurps.

Teriyaki Chix Grilled Flatbread Burger - $11.90
Levon's ! Wah this is very nice, the flatbread is like a flaky crispy prata.
The teriyaki sauce is not overly sweet or salty.

Usually if Levon says very good you can believe her. #pickyeater HAHAH

Pepper Chix Linguine - $11.90
Pasta in a jars - usually gimicky and probably only nice on the outside..
BUT NO this place has awesome pasta!

Bimb says abit too much black pepper on this one, and she basically dumped all the capsicums in a corner. *horrified face*

Fusion Olio - $11.90
Loads of sauteed mushrooms and garlic inside!
Plus the crispy chicken floss gave it a nice crunch.

My siao zhar bor budding yeast giving a demo on how thick skinned she is ;p

Arty-Farty Mud Tarts - $5.50
Either oreo or matcha flavoured :D

Very pretty but not delicious at all.. the cream inside was so dryyy.
Such a waste.

Second time back - with budding yeast on graduation day :D

Teriyaki Chix Spaghettini - $12.90 and Smoking Salmon Grilled Flatbread Burger - $14.90
Seriously I need to know where do they get the flatbread from, cause its so good :D
Crispy and flaky, and not too oily.
I love the combination of crunchy vegetables and mayo and ebiko too!

Highly recommend fArt tArtz - for their mains, which are unique and actually quite filling.
Perhaps one day I shall try their dessert jars again? :B

Review: TeeTurtle.com

I placed an order with TeeTurtle during the Black Friday sales period, expecting it to reach me via normal international shipping by DHL in a month's time.

Tracking by DHL stopped on Dec 10th, where no updates were released further; the package was 'En route' from Secaucus.
I expected slow delivery due to the holiday season, so I didn't worry much about the package until almost a month later.

I contacted DHL first, to enquire about the package, but till date they have yet to reply.
TeeTurtle was contacted a day after DHL, and they impressed me with their prompt reply and actions.

They told me that the package is most probably lost, and apologised - even though it was not even their fault, it's DHL's.
Additionally, they took the initiative to re-send the entire order, AND upgraded my shipping to registered shipping as well - without me paying a single cent.

Most of the time, a lost parcel is every online shopper's nightmare.
No retailer nor shipping company is willing to take the responsibility, and especially so when registered mail is not selected.

TeeTurtle saved me from such a horror, and without me making any demands - actually I didn't even have a chance to say anything;
they had already sent out the orders before replying me - proving that they are really sincere about their commitment in making their customers happy in ways that they can.
TeeTurtle loves you, seriously!

I can't wait to receive my fluffy soft pop culture nerdy shirts,
and I'll encourage you guys to visit http://www.teeturtle.com/ to take a look at their labour of love.
Enjoy!
